President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to host the Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa in Abuja following their impressive victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Over the weekend, the Nigerian team secured their 10th continental title after defeating host nation Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in a thrilling final held in Rabat.

The reception at the Villa is part of a series of official events organized to honour the team’s outstanding performance, which has once again solidified Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.

Governors Uba Sani (Kaduna State), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara State), and Hope Uzodimma (Imo State), along with several federal ministers, were present at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to welcome the team back to the country.

The Falcons’ victory has sparked celebrations across Nigeria, with citizens commending the team’s resilience, discipline, and determination throughout the tournament.

In further recognition of their stellar performances, four Super Falcons players—Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie—have been named in the WAFCON Best XI, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women on their official X (formerly Twitter) page.

“The stars who shined the brightest. Meet your Best XI of the tournament,” CAF Women posted.

Ajibade, a standout performer throughout the competition, was named Player of the Tournament. The Atletico Madrid forward also won Woman of the Match in three of Nigeria’s six games, showcasing her leadership and attacking prowess.

Okoronkwo played a crucial role in the attack, scoring twice and providing four assists, while Nnadozie earned the Best Goalkeeper award after keeping four clean sheets—further strengthening her status as one of Africa’s top shot-stoppers.

Defender Michelle Alozie, who played every minute of the tournament, also made the Best XI. Her dramatic late goal against South Africa in the semi-final remains one of the defining moments of the championship.
