The Ohafia Ancient Kingdom has entered a new era with the ascension of His Royal Majesty Ezie Awa Orji Udonsi, Ebiri of Elu, as the Ezieogo Elu Ohafia and Udumeze of Isiama Ohafia Autonomous Community, following the passing of his predecessor, Ezie-Ogo Prof. E.U.L. Imaga, in 2024.
Crowned on the 6th of July, 2025, HRM Ezie Udonsi is not only a custodian of the revered Ohafia traditions but also a highly accomplished academic and technologist, whose career and service span across the fields of soil science, education, and public administration.
Royal Roots and Traditional Leadership
Born into the royal family of Umu Anya Uduma Oke of Ndi Imaga compound in Elu Ohafia, HRM Ezie Awa Orji Udonsi is deeply rooted in the traditional institutions of his people. A committed member of the AGUMBA Age Grade and a Ruling Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, he is admired for his humility, dedication to communal progress, and active promotion of Ohafia culture and values.
With his ascension, he also assumes the position of Permanent Chairman of the Ohafia Council of Monarchs, a role through which he is expected to lead traditional leadership across the 26 autonomous communities of Ohafia.

HRM Ezie Udonsi boasts an impressive academic profile:
- M.Sc. in Soil Chemistry – Imo State University
- HND in Microbiology/Virology Science Laboratory Technology – Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, University of Jos
- PGD in Chemistry and Biology Instrumentation for Soil Analysis – University of Ibadan
He is a proud member of the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technologists (NISLT).

Spanning several decades, HRM Udonsi’s career has taken him across Nigeria, where he contributed to national efforts in agricultural development, soil science, and education. His professional engagements include:

A respected researcher, he has conducted extensive work in soil analysis, interpretation, and management, and is proficient in remote sensing technologies for land use and agricultural productivity.

HRM Ezie Awa Orji Udonsi is married to Nnenna Awa Udonsi, and together they are blessed with three promising children.

As the new Udumeze, HRM Udonsi is expected to steer Ohafia into a future marked by unity, cultural pride, and developmental progress.
