Civilian Casualties Reported As Russia, Ukraine Exchange Strikes

Russia launched overnight attacks on multiple Ukrainian regions, killing at least one person in Dnipro, while Moscow reported two deaths following a Ukrainian drone strike in Russia’s Rostov region, officials said Saturday.

In Dnipro, Mayor Borys Filatov confirmed that one person was killed after a strike hit a high-rise apartment building.

“I urge everyone to take proper precautions during attacks,” Filatov posted on Telegram.

“I know there are not enough shelters, but staying on upper floors during shelling is dangerous—especially when underground parking areas are available.”

Meanwhile, in Russia’s Rostov region, acting Governor Yuri Sliusar said a Ukrainian drone strike set a car ablaze, killing two people.

“Tragically, two people died,” he wrote on Telegram.

Other Ukrainian cities, including Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, also came under fire overnight.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that the city endured nearly three hours of sustained bombardment, with Russia deploying guided bombs, ballistic missiles, and kamikaze drones.

In Zaporizhzhia, Governor Ivan Fedorov said Russian drone strikes triggered multiple fires. One drone hit a residential building, while another damaged a farm warehouse.

As hostilities intensify, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to advocate for peace talks, proposing a possible meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin by the end of August.

However, the Kremlin downplayed the likelihood of such a meeting, citing deep disagreements between the two sides. Kyiv has criticized Russia for sending only low-level representatives to preliminary discussions, accusing Moscow of lacking seriousness.

Russia maintains its demand for Ukraine to cede control of four regions it claims to have annexed—terms Kyiv firmly rejects as unacceptable.

In the meantime, Ukraine is urging Western allies to step up military support, as its forces face daily bombardments from Russian forces.
