The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have formalized a new strategic partnership aimed at enhancing road safety across Nigeria.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday in Abuja, according to a statement from NSIB spokesperson Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, which was made available to journalists on Thursday.
At the signing event, NSIB Director-General Capt. Alex Badeh explained that the partnership is part of a wider initiative to expand safety investigations across all transport sectors—road, aviation, maritime, and rail.
“This collaboration is designed to raise the bar on transportation safety in Nigeria.
By combining our resources and expertise, we aim to strengthen accident investigations and enforcement, ensuring more effective prevention of future incidents,” Badeh said.
He commended the FRSC for recent advances in road safety enforcement and emergency response, highlighting that the partnership would enable NSIB to offer more precise safety recommendations to support FRSC operations.
“The collaboration will ensure safety protocols are regularly updated to reflect emerging transportation challenges.
It’s a crucial step toward fostering a comprehensive and proactive safety culture,” Badeh added.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed emphasized the importance of the memorandum of understanding (MoU), noting that transport safety extends beyond aviation.
“Our goal is to make Nigeria’s entire transport environment safer, from roads to railways.
This partnership will strengthen our ability to protect lives on the roads and promote a more coordinated approach to safety,” he said.
Under the new agreement, both agencies will work closely to implement enhanced safety measures, with a particular focus on road transport—a sector plagued by frequent accidents.
Key elements of the collaboration include standardizing investigation procedures, boosting accountability, and improving real-time incident response.
NSIB will contribute its technical expertise in accident investigations, while the FRSC will leverage its operational capabilities in road safety enforcement.
