Troops Kill Top Boko Haram Commander, Multiple Terrorists In Borno Operation

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have eliminated a notorious Boko Haram commander, Ibn Khalid, along with numerous other terrorists, during a series of successful military operations in remote parts of Borno State.

Led by the theater commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the operations also resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, and logistics equipment used by the insurgents.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Theatre Command.

According to the statement, OPHK troops stationed in Monguno thwarted an attempted infiltration by terrorists. During the subsequent pursuit, soldiers discovered blood trails along the escape routes of the fleeing insurgents. Among the items recovered were a significant quantity of 7.62 mm special ammunition, one PKT belt, an AK-47 rifle magazine, a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bomb, and other military gear.

In another engagement at Bitta, located in Gwoza Local Government Area, troops again repelled an infiltration attempt. The insurgents, including Ibn Khalid—a senior Quiad commander—and the group’s cameraman, were overpowered by the military’s superior firepower. Additional weapons, AK-47 magazines, and a camcorder were retrieved from the site.

The statement further noted that in separate subsidiary operations across Sambisa Forest, Madagali, and Kaga local government areas, at least 17 more terrorists were neutralized. Troops also seized several motorcycles and logistics materials used by the insurgents.

The military high command praised the troops for their bravery and determination, encouraging them to maintain the momentum in the ongoing battle against insurgency in Nigeria’s Northeast.
