Davido Bags Honorary Award From Ohuhu Youths For Reviving Bright Chimezie’s Legacy

Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been honoured with an Honorary Youth Recognition Award by the youths of Ohuhu-Umuahia in Abia State, in appreciation of his pivotal role in reviving the musical career of highlife legend, Bright Chimezie.

ABN TV gathered that the award presentation was made through renowned media entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe (Don Lulu), during a special ceremony held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Umuahia.

According to the Ohuhu Youth President, Chief Uchenna Gavin Iheanacho, Davido’s support and collaboration with Bright Chimezie brought renewed attention and appreciation to the veteran artiste’s legacy. He described the Afrobeat star as “A true Friend Of Ohuhuland”, whose gesture exemplifies respect for cultural heritage and musical excellence.

“We are proud to honour Davido for shining the spotlight on one of our own, the legendary Bright Chimezie. His actions not only reignited the highlife genre but also connected the new generation with our rich cultural roots,” Iheanacho said.

The award, initially planned to be presented during Mayor Igbokwe’s birthday concert, was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. The youth leadership appealed to Don Lulu to personally deliver the award to Davido on their behalf.

In his response, Mayor Igbokwe thanked the youths for recognizing excellence and pledged to deliver the award to Davido as requested. He praised the singer for his consistent efforts in supporting emerging and veteran talents across Nigeria.

“Davido has proven time and again that he is not just a global music icon but a bridge between generations. This honour is well-deserved,” Igbokwe said.

The recognition adds to Davido’s long list of accolades and reinforces his reputation as an influential figure within and beyond the music industry.
