Viktor Gyökeres’ potential transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal has hit a standstill due to a disagreement over the striker’s valuation, putting the deal at risk of collapse.
Arsenal have made the Swedish international their top target this summer, preferring him over RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško in their pursuit of a new center-forward.
Gyökeres has reportedly agreed to personal terms on a five-year contract with the North London club and has been waiting for the two clubs to finalize the transfer fee.
However, according to Record, negotiations have stalled since the weekend, with both sides standing firm on their valuations. The player is said to believe there is a gentleman’s agreement in place allowing him to leave for €60 million plus €10 million in bonuses (around £60.3 million in total), an interpretation Sporting now appears to dispute.
Arsenal have reportedly offered €65 million plus €15 million in performance-based add-ons (approximately £68.9 million), but Sporting are holding out for a guaranteed €70 million (£60.4 million) with no conditions attached.
With no progress made, Arsenal’s negotiating team has reportedly returned to London without a deal in place. The club is now said to be re-evaluating its options and may walk away from the deal entirely unless Sporting soften their stance in further discussions.
