The Abam bloc of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has issued a scathing response to what it described as a smear campaign launched by a self-acclaimed group known as the “Coalition for Equity and Justice in Abia North Senate.” In a strongly worded statement, the stakeholders accused the group of engaging in political blackmail aimed at discrediting Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK), whom they say remains a towering figure in the region’s political landscape.
Describing the so-called coalition as a gathering of “political opportunists,” the Abam APC leaders dismissed the group’s recent media attacks as a desperate attempt to gain relevance, having failed to deliver meaningful leadership in the past.
The statement specifically called out Hon. Chief Chiebere Uwagwu Kalu and Hon. Chief Sir Chima Agbaeze, alleging that their past tenures in public office amounted to mere photo opportunities and symbolic gestures with no lasting impact on the people.
“Their sudden moral awakening is not inspired by love for Abia North but by a selfish craving for political access and recognition,” the statement read. “When mediocrity reigned, they were silent. Today, they cry for justice not because of principle, but because of political ambition.”
The group rejected criticisms surrounding Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s bid for a third term, drawing parallels with the late Senator Uche Chukwumerije, who served three terms in the Senate without controversy.
“There was no uproar when Chukwumerije sought and completed three terms. Why is it different now?” they questioned. “Because OUK’s over 50 executed constituency projects across all five LGAs have exposed the barren records of others who now pretend to champion equity.”
Reaffirming their support for Senator Kalu, the stakeholders insisted that the people of Abia North have the right to determine their political future without interference from “political jobbers hiding behind press briefings.”
“Abam is watching. Abia North is watching. And come 2027, it is the people who will decide—not those peddling press statements funded by envy,” the statement concluded.
The Abam APC stakeholders pledged unwavering support for Orji Uzor Kalu, describing his legacy as “visible, measurable, and enduring,” and vowed not to remain silent in the face of what they called orchestrated misinformation.
“We stand with OUK. We stand with legacy. And we will not be silent,” the group affirmed.
