The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for gunmen responsible for the killing of 10 people during a violent attack in Ogboji, Orumba-South Local Government Area, on June 30.
In a statement released on Tuesday in Awka, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, strongly condemned the incident, describing it as an unprovoked and indiscriminate shooting.
“The Police Command in Anambra condemns the indiscriminate shooting that led to fatal injuries and the death of 10 persons on the evening of June 30 at Ogboji, Orumba-South LGA,” Ikenga said.
“The Command assures the public that it will track down the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”
According to the statement, the attackers, who arrived in two sport utility vehicles (SUVs), stormed a peaceful gathering and opened fire without provocation. The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where 10 were confirmed dead.
The bodies have since been deposited at the morgue, Ikenga confirmed.
He added that a police-led security team has secured the scene of the attack and is currently working with intelligence sources to identify and apprehend those behind the heinous act.
