The decisive goal came from youngster Gonzalo Garcia, who headed in his third goal of the tournament at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, continuing an impressive run under new coach Xabi Alonso. Madrid, still unbeaten since Alonso took charge, also welcomed Kylian Mbappé back from illness, with the star forward coming on as a second-half substitute.
Dortmund reached the last eight by narrowly defeating Mexican side Monterrey 2-1 in a tense round-of-16 clash held in Atlanta. Serhou Guirassy scored both goals for the German side, spoiling a potential reunion between Sergio Ramos and his former club, Real Madrid.
