The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a vandalism case and recovered several stolen items within Uyo metropolis.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the arrests were made on Sunday, June 29, following a tip-off about suspicious activity along Ndiya Street, off Aka Road in Uyo.

At about 11:46 a.m., officers responded swiftly to credible intelligence about an ongoing act of vandalism. Upon arriving at the scene, the suspects attempted to flee but one was immediately apprehended,” John said.

Further investigations later in the day led to the arrest of a second suspect around 3:40 p.m. at Ebiare Afiat Lane, also off Aka Road.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed information about another accomplice—believed to be the buyer of the stolen items—who is currently on the run. Police say efforts are underway to track down and arrest him.

A search of the area resulted in the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen. These include two large oxygen gas cylinders, two Fireman generators (models 3000 and 1800), a 12.5 kg gas cylinder, a mechanic’s toolbox, two wheelbarrows, a 4 kg gas cylinder, an aluminium car wheel, a Coca-Cola metal display stand, a tile cutter, and a solar light panel, among others.

DSP John confirmed that once investigations are completed, the arrested suspects will be charged in court.

She also urged residents of Akwa Ibom to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by sharing timely and useful information that could help in preventing and solving crimes.
