The federal government has restated its commitment to the emergency evacuation of Nigerians stranded in Israel and Iran, as tensions between the two countries continue to escalate.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar made this known in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa. The announcement follows the ministry’s consistent appeals for an end to hostilities as the conflict enters its seventh day, underscoring Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to promote peace between the nations.
Tuggar confirmed that the government is in the final stages of preparing for the emergency evacuation of Nigerian citizens currently caught in the crisis zones.
He called on affected Nigerians to comply with all necessary security measures and to reach out to the nearest Nigerian foreign mission for registration and additional guidance.
The minister also commended the work of Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Tel Aviv and Tehran, praising their efforts to stay connected with the Nigerian community during this critical time.
“The government remains committed to the safety and welfare of all its citizens, both at home and abroad,” Tuggar said.
He further noted that the government is actively collaborating with international partners and local authorities to ensure effective coordination for a prompt and safe evacuation process.
In addition, the government reiterated its appeal for an immediate halt to hostilities, urging all sides to engage in dialogue, uphold international humanitarian law, and prioritize the safety of civilians.
Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s strong support for peaceful conflict resolution and reiterated the country’s longstanding commitment to regional and global peace and stability. (NAN)
