Abia Govt Constitutes Board For Medicines, Commodities Management Agency [See Full List]

The Abia State Government has formally constituted the Board of the Abia State Medicines and Commodities Management Agency (ASMCMA), as part of efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure effective management of essential medicines across the state.

The Executive Governor of Abia State approved the constitution of the Board, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, in line with his administration’s commitment to reposition the health sector through improved access to quality and affordable medical supplies.

In a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ctz. Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the newly inaugurated Board comprises seasoned professionals with vast expertise in healthcare management, pharmaceutical services, and public administration. The Board is tasked with providing strategic oversight and policy direction to ensure transparency, availability, and quality control in the procurement and distribution of medicines and medical commodities across all public health institutions in the state.

The members of the Board include:

1. Chief Victor Amuta, FPSN – Chairman (Veteran pharmacist and public health expert with over 48 years of experience)
2. Dr. (Mrs.) Katlyn I. Ukpabi – Member representing Abia North (Retired Consultant Pediatrician, FMC Umuahia)
3. Sir Ucheoma A. Madumere – Member representing Abia Central (Industrial and community pharmacist)
4. Dr. Akara Emmanuel Ugochukwu – Member representing Abia South (Medical doctor and health policy expert)
5. Mr. Chris Ukah – Member (Community health advocate)

Statutory Members:

• Dr. Borke Ngozi Okwale – Director, Medical Services, Ministry of Health
• Pharm. (Mrs.) Nnenna Emuche – Director, Pharmacy Services, Ministry of Health
• Mrs. Charity Ekwuribe – Director, Nursing Services, Ministry of Health
• Dr. Clem Ifekeronye – Secretary, NMA, Abia State Branch
• Sir Emmanuel Okafor – Chairman, PSN, Abia State Branch
• Mrs. Elechi Obi-Chianakwalam – Representative, Ministry of Finance
• Pharm. Nnaemeka Kanu Orji – Executive Secretary of ASMCMA and Secretary of the Board

The government expressed confidence that the expertise and integrity of the Board members will drive the Agency’s mandate of establishing a robust and transparent system for the regulation, procurement, and equitable distribution of essential health commodities in the state.
