The federal government has announced plans to build 100 housing units in each of the 774 local government areas across Nigeria.
This was revealed by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Atta, during an event in Kano on Tuesday evening. The occasion marked the reception of hundreds of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) supporters who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin.
Atta explained that the initiative would result in the construction of 77,400 homes nationwide, with Kano State alone receiving 4,400 units.
“This is a very nice program, where the president is going to build 100 houses in each of the local governments of the Great Nation. That is 77,400 houses,” he said.
“So if you multiply 100 by 44 local governments, we are going to get 4,400 houses. This is greater than any of our states,” he added.
He called on the new APC members and the people of Kano to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration as it continues working to enhance the well-being of Nigerians. Atta highlighted the provision of affordable housing under the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda as a key part of this effort.
Earlier, while welcoming the defectors, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin praised their decision to join the APC.
“I congratulate and welcome you into our great party, the APC. I congratulate you on taking such a wise decision to join the APC, Africa’s largest political party.
“The APC is a party of progress and development and a dividend of democracy,” he said.
