The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the upcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states for Saturday, July 20, 2026, and Saturday, August 8, 2026, respectively.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced the dates on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of six newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), who were recently confirmed by the National Assembly.

While addressing the new RECs, Yakubu emphasized the importance of their roles and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to free, fair, and credible elections. He noted that the timetable for the two off-cycle governorship elections is being released well ahead of time to allow for adequate planning and stakeholder engagement.

Prof. Yakubu also disclosed that INEC is finalizing arrangements for several bye-elections to fill vacant seats in both the National and State Houses of Assembly. These vacancies, he said, have arisen due to death, resignation, or other circumstances affecting current office holders.

“We are finalising arrangements for the conduct of bye-elections to fill existing vacancies in the National and State Assemblies,” Yakubu said.

Further details soon.
