A joint security task force comprising the police, military, and Anambra State Vigilante operatives has uncovered and destroyed a bomb-making facility allegedly run by non-state actors in Isekke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
During the raid, the team recovered and safely demobilized several locally made improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Authorities described the operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to flush out armed groups destabilizing the region.
Isekke, which borders Orsu in neighboring Imo State, has been considered a dangerous zone for several years due to the presence of armed gangs. According to the Anambra State Police Command, the location served as one of the final strongholds of a secessionist group that had long operated with impunity.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that one of the IEDs, which had been buried around the camp, detonated during the operation, causing significant damage to a nearby road. He explained that the explosive was likely intended as a defensive barrier to block access to the site by security personnel.
“No lives were lost in the operation,” Ikenga said.
“The IED was designed to act as a shield, preventing security forces from reaching the facility.”
He added that security forces have continued to maintain operational control of the area and are intensifying efforts to reclaim the entire zone from criminal elements.
“This operation marks a significant step toward restoring peace and order in the region,” the police spokesperson stated.
