Nigerian music icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has publicly responded to a controversial social media post targeting his relationship with the Igbo community, firmly stating that he shares Igbo heritage.

The post, made by user @Yakbel on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, warned the singer against close ties with Igbos, claiming they would eventually betray him.

The post read, “Davido just dey carry Ibo full body until when dem betray am before e rest. Yoruba boys are frolicking with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them. You can never satisfy Ibos, ooo. IBOs are not people you surround yourself with as a Yoruba man.”

In a swift and unequivocal response, Davido replied, “Lol, I AM IGBO by blood.”

The response quickly gained traction online, earning the singer praise from fans and observers for standing against tribalism and promoting unity across Nigeria’s ethnic groups.

Davido’s comment comes just a day after he hosted legendary highlife musician Elder Bright Chimezie, who he recently credited as an inspiration for his verse on the song “With You.”

The singer’s embrace of his diverse heritage and rejection of divisive rhetoric has resonated with many, especially in a time when conversations around ethnicity and national unity remain sensitive across Nigeria.
