Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has confirmed the ongoing reconstruction and upgrade of the Government House and the Governor’s Office in Umuahia.

Gov. Otti Confirms Reconstruction Of Governor’s Office, Explains Initial Delay

Speaking during a Sabbath service at the Unity Chapel, Government House, on Saturday, Governor Otti explained that the renovation project was deliberately delayed at the onset of his administration to focus on priorities with more direct impact on the lives of the people.

According to the Governor, the initial months of his administration were guided by a well-defined scale of preference that placed the welfare of Abians above personal or administrative comfort.

We didn’t think this place (Government House) was more important than your salaries. We didn’t think this place was more important than primary healthcare centres, our schools, or making education free at the basic level,” Otti said.

He emphasized that his administration began with critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and workers’ welfare, noting that significant progress in those areas has now allowed attention to turn to the Government House.

Governor Otti disclosed that reconstruction work had begun on the Michael Okpara Auditorium, with completion targeted before the end of June. He also noted that furnishing work at the Secretary to the State Government’s office is nearing completion, and renovations have commenced at the Government House Clinic. Plans are also underway to rebuild the Governor’s Lodge and the Unity Chapel.

While urging worshippers to continue in faith and support for his government, the Governor assured that the administration would maintain and increase its developmental momentum. He reminded the congregation that in a few days, his government would mark two years in office—halfway into its first term.

Earlier in the service, Elder Ezekwem Odigbo of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church delivered a sermon titled “Facing the Giant,” drawn from 1 Samuel 17:32–37. He encouraged Christians to draw strength from their identity in God, just as David did in facing Goliath.

The service featured special prayers for the Governor, his family, and the people of Abia State. Dignitaries in attendance included the Governor’s wife, Mrs. Priscilla Otti; Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Okezie Nmeregini; Chief of Staff Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Ph.D; and several Commissioners. After the service, Governor Otti inspected ongoing reconstruction works within the Government House.
