The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has congratulated Professor Chris Piwuna on his election as the new president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), expressing strong confidence in his ability to drive meaningful change in the Nigerian university system.
In a statement issued on Thursday, NANS President Olushola Oladoja praised Piwuna’s leadership qualities, describing him as a man of character, vision, and dedication to the advancement of university education.
“Your impressive track record in leading negotiations and championing causes within the academic space makes you exceptionally suited for this role,” Oladoja stated.
He noted that Piwuna’s emergence signals the continuation of ASUU’s legacy of strategic activism and reform, aimed at improving the higher education landscape in Nigeria.
“We believe you are here to consolidate the agenda of positive change started by your predecessors, which has already yielded visible progress in university representation and advocacy,” Oladoja added.
NANS also expressed its readiness to collaborate with ASUU under Piwuna’s leadership to advance student-oriented policies and reforms. Oladoja emphasized the potential for impactful partnerships between both bodies, especially in constructive activism and negotiations geared toward educational development.
