Don Lulu Foundation Wipes Away Hospital Debts, Tears At FMC Umuahia (Photos + Video)

In an inspiring act of philanthropy, the Don Lulu Foundation, led by renowned humanitarian and entertainment entrepreneur, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe (Don Lulu), on Tuesday visited the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia and cleared the outstanding medical bills of several patients battling health challenges and financial hardship.

The gesture, which brought tears of joy and gratitude to many, was part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable populations in Abia State and beyond. Patients who had been stranded in the hospital due to their inability to pay for treatment were given a fresh lease on life, thanks to the intervention.

Mayor Igbokwe, accompanied by members of his foundation and close associates, was warmly received by the Chief Medical Director of FMC Umuahia, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi. The delegation moved from ward to ward, where the philanthropist personally interacted with patients, offered prayers, gave words of encouragement, and assured them that all their medical expenses had been taken care of.

Speaking during the visit, Igbokwe emphasized that the intervention at FMC Umuahia was in line with the foundation’s broader mission of extending love, compassion, and practical support to those in distress.

“What happened at FMC today is one of the many ways my foundation reaches out to humanity,” he said. “Healthcare is a basic right, and no one should suffer or die because they cannot afford medical bills. Our aim is to bridge that gap wherever and whenever we can.”

The patients, visibly emotional, expressed immense gratitude to the Don Lulu Foundation, describing the gesture as “God-sent.” Some of them had spent weeks in the hospital, unable to be discharged due to unpaid bills, while others had been struggling to access needed treatment.

Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi commended the foundation’s timely and impactful outreach, stating that the hospital frequently deals with patients who are brought in after serious accidents or medical emergencies, only to be stranded due to a lack of financial means.

“Many of those assisted today were accident victims with little or no family support,” he explained. “Since I became Chief Medical Director, I’ve lost count of how many times Mayor Igbokwe has stepped in to assist patients in need. He has consistently shown compassion where it is most needed, and for that, we are truly grateful. May God continue to bless and increase him.”

Also present during the hospital outreach was the Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kelechi Onuzuruike. He praised Mayor Igbokwe’s unwavering commitment to social good, noting that his actions serve as a model for both private citizens and public officials.

“What Mayor Igbokwe has done today is truly admirable and worthy of emulation,” Hon. Onuzuruike said. “This is what leadership and community service should look like – using one’s resources and influence to uplift others.”

The Don Lulu Foundation, over the years, has carved a niche for itself in various sectors, from education to healthcare, youth empowerment, and community development.
