Obasanjo Commissions 30 MVA Power Substation In Aba, Praises Geometric Power and Governor Otti

Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has officially commissioned a new 30 MVA power substation built by Geometric Power Limited in Ogbor Hill, Aba, Abia State.

During the commissioning ceremony, Obasanjo lauded Geometric Power and Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for their commitment to providing reliable electricity within the Aba ring-fenced distribution area. He also called for the project’s expansion to Umuahia and other parts of the state.

“Aba, once a hub of industry, declined due to inadequate power. Today, I am pleased to see what Geometric Power has achieved. When I first encouraged the project, it was a leap of faith. Seeing the results now, I’m proud of that decision,” Obasanjo said.

He added, “Your persistence has paid off. I encourage you to extend power coverage to the remaining eight local government areas. Energy drives development and has the potential to transform entire communities.”

Governor Alex Otti, in his remarks, recounted his role in helping to revive Geometric Power by supporting its fundraising efforts. He also praised Obasanjo for initially granting the company its operational license and establishing the Aba ring-fenced electricity zone—years ahead of recent federal reforms that allow states to regulate electricity.

Otti further revealed that discussions are underway to acquire the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), with the aim of extending surplus electricity from Geometric Power to Umuahia and other areas.

Chairman and CEO of Geometric Group, Prof. Barth Nnaji, provided a brief on the Aba Integrated Power Project and thanked Obasanjo, Governor Otti, and past Abia State administrations for their support in bringing the long-term vision to life.

Also speaking at the event, Barr. Ugochukwu Opiegbe, Managing Director of Aba Power Limited, announced plans to begin mass metering within the Aba ring-fenced zone in the near future.
