NDLEA Calls for Collective Action Against Drug Abuse As NGO Donates Equipment In Lagos

The Lagos State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reaffirmed that the fight against drug abuse and trafficking cannot be won by the agency alone, calling on communities, organisations, and governments to unite in addressing the growing menace.

This call was made by Mr. Liman Wali, the Lagos State Commander of the NDLEA, on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Mistletoe Community Health and Right Initiative (MCHARI), a community-based organisation focused on health and drug-related advocacy.

During the visit, MCHARI donated air conditioners and a projector to support the agency’s operations, earning commendation from the NDLEA commander.

“The fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking is not a one-man business. It requires collaboration at all levels. Working together creates a safer and healthier society,” Wali stated.

He praised MCHARI’s gesture and urged other civil society groups to follow their example by contributing to the national campaign against substance abuse.

Wali also assured that the donated equipment would be put to good use in enhancing the agency’s service delivery and outreach activities.

Leading the MCHARI delegation, Ms. Diana Edem explained that their organisation focuses on health initiatives for female injecting drug users, a group often overlooked in broader discussions on drug abuse.

“We cater to victims, especially women who are often neglected in national drug discourse. Our work supports rehabilitation and advocacy, complementing the efforts of the NDLEA,” Edem said.

She emphasized the need for inclusive policies and greater attention to the specific challenges faced by women who use drugs, particularly those at risk of health complications and social marginalization.

The event highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in the fight against drug abuse and reinforced the NDLEA’s call for increased grassroots engagement and support.

The NDLEA continues to seek collaborative efforts in its mission to curb drug abuse and trafficking across Nigeria.
