The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has once again commended Governor Alex Otti, for his developmental strides in Abia State.
Speaking on Sunday, February 16, at the International Conference Center, Umuahia, during the 80th birthday celebration of former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Godswill Emelike Okoro, Sen. Wabara emphasized that he remains an Abian first before his political affiliations.
“Before becoming a PDP card-carrying member, before becoming an NRC card-carrying member in this state, I, Adolphus Nduneweh Wabara, was first and foremost a citizen of Abia,” he stated.
He acknowledged the visible progress in the state under Governor Otti’s leadership, adding, “Even a blind man can see what is happening in Abia!” Wabara also took a swipe at his critics within the PDP, joking that they might now move from suspending him to expelling him for speaking the truth.
“But, having said so, sir, continue with the works; our ancestors in Abia are with you,” he declared.
The PDP BoT Chairman reiterated that no one could suspend him from the party for commending good governance, insisting that he would continue to appreciate Governor Otti for his contributions to Abia State’s development.
“I will be one of those who will continue to appreciate you. I have not mentioned Labour Party; I have always mentioned Governor Alex Otti. We are all with you,” he affirmed.
Wabara further remarked that Governor Otti, whom some political stakeholders had opposed, is now leading the state’s recovery from years of misgovernance.
Also speaking at the event, the celebrant, Dr. Emelike Okoro, praised Governor Otti for his leadership, particularly highlighting the recent flag-off of the Onuinyang-Oporoenyi Oboro Road reconstruction, which connects Bende and Ikwuano Local Government Areas. He described the project as a significant boost to the state’s agricultural sector.
Dr. Okoro recalled his past political stance, revealing that he had once advised Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe to remain in the Senate rather than contest for governorship, as he sought a “breath of fresh air” in Abia’s leadership. He lauded Governor Otti, saying, “Alex Otti, you have brought a breath of fresh air.”
In his remarks, Governor Otti congratulated Dr. Okoro on his 80th birthday, describing him as a father figure and mentor. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to unity and inclusivity, stressing that every resident who contributes to the state’s progress is regarded as an Abian, regardless of political affiliation.
“Abians are people of excellence, and those still living on primordial sentiments should wake up and embrace the new Abia we are building—one anchored on excellence, capacity, competence, and equity,” Governor Otti stated.
He also emphasized the need to restore respect for elders in society, warning against insults directed at them under the guise of politics. According to him, such actions attract consequences when elders pronounce curses.
Governor Otti concluded by reaffirming his respect for elders, stating that his presence at Dr. Okoro’s birthday was a demonstration of that principle. He also announced his plans to attend upcoming celebrations for Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe’s 70th birthday on March 1 and Senator Chris Adighije’s 80th birthday on March 22.
