Hon. Amobi Ogah Hosts Historic Town Hall Meeting In Isuikwuato, Reaffirms Commitment To Constituents (Photos, Video)

Hon. Amobi Ogah, the member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, held a town hall meeting for the people of Isuikwuato Local Government Area on Friday, January 31, 2025.

The Multi-Purpose Hall, Mbalano, was filled to capacity as stakeholders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community representatives gathered to discuss key developmental issues affecting the constituency.

The event, themed “Fostering Strategic Constituency Engagement,” was chaired by Dr. Kingsley Dozie Lawrence and opened with a prayer led by His Lordship Bishop Chiemeka Okpara, the Methodist Bishop of Isuikwuato Diocese.

In his address, Hon. Ogah expressed gratitude to his constituents for their continued support and reassured them of his unwavering commitment to effective representation and impactful governance. He vowed never to betray the trust placed in him and reaffirmed his dedication to bringing tangible development to the area.

Traditional rulers, led by HRH Eze Engr. Augustine O. Udeh, commended Hon. Ogah for his quality representation and various empowerment initiatives. However, they called his attention to stalled federal projects, including:

• The ABSU (Uturu) – Akara road
• The Okigwe – Uturu road, crucial for commuters and economic activities

HRH Eze Chigbu Ikwulagu urged the lawmaker to prioritize the Ezere-Ozara-Acha road, which links Isuikwuato with neighboring Ebonyi State, emphasizing its economic significance.

Similarly, HRH Eze Uwadiegwu Ogbonnaya advocated for the return of the Law and Agriculture faculties of Abia State University (ABSU) to Uturu Campus and the rehabilitation of hinterland roads in the area.

Religious leaders and other stakeholders also weighed in. Bishop Chiemeka Okpara applauded Hon. Ogah’s efforts in sponsoring the Etiti State creation bill, which has passed second reading at the National Assembly, and called for collective support to ensure its success.

Calls for Development Projects and Job Creation

praised Hon. Ogah’s dedication and numerous completed projects while urging him to:

• Ensure Isuikwuato/Umunneochi’s full inclusion in the Etiti State creation process
• Restore electricity to Uturu communities
• Improve security in the area
• Facilitate the establishment of a housing estate
• Create more job opportunities for youths and ensure better representation in federal appointments

The President-General of Isuikwuato Development Union (IDU) National, Mr. Chidiebere Uguru, commended Hon. Ogah’s development strides and requested assistance for:

• The completion of the IDU National Secretariat
• Provision of an operational bus for IDU

Similarly, Dr. Chidi Mbah, President-General of Uturu Development Union, promised full support for the Etiti State creation effort and formally presented a position paper on the matter.

A key focus of the town hall meeting was the proposed creation of Etiti State, a cause Ogah passionately champions as a solution to the marginalization of his constituents. “We are a minority, and the creation of Etiti State is critical to ensuring that we have fair representation,” he asserted. He emphasized that the new state would better serve the interests of the people of Isiukwuato and Umuneochi, who have long suffered from political and infrastructural neglect.

Ogah also provided updates on ongoing projects, including the renovation of health centers and schools in the area. “By the time I complete my second year in office, we will commission many projects and provide more empowerment opportunities,” he assured. He further addressed the persistent power supply issues affecting Isiukwuato, Uturu, and Okigwe, revealing that he is working with relevant authorities to find lasting solutions. He cited the re-awarding of the Mbalano road project as a significant step toward improving infrastructure in the constituency.

Dr. Kingsley Dozie, who chaired the meeting, commended Ogah for the initiative, noting that it was unprecedented in the constituency. “All parties are involved, and it’s an honor to be here today,” he said, acknowledging the representative’s inclusive approach.

In his closing remarks, Ogah reaffirmed his commitment to democracy and good governance. Speaking to journalists after the event, he stated, “If I lose the election, I will never go to court because power belongs to you, the people. Our focus should be on delivering results, not party lines.”

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Hon. Harrison Onuke, Labour Party Chairman of Isuikwuato LGA, who praised Hon. Ogah for his non-partisan approach to governance and urged him to continue championing the people’s interests.

The closing prayer was led by Rt. Rev. P. C. Anyim, Anglican Bishop of Isuikwuato Diocese, marking the end of a highly engaging and successful town hall meeting.

The town hall meeting marked a significant milestone in Ogah’s tenure, providing constituents with a platform to voice their concerns and engage directly with their representative. As the campaign for Etiti State gains momentum, Ogah’s advocacy signals a renewed push for equitable representation and development in Isiukwuato and Umuneochi.
