History was made today as Rep. Amobi Godwin Ogah, Member of the House of Representatives for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, officially flagged off the infrastructural upgrade of Uturu Secondary School, Isuikwuato Local Government Area.

The project, valued at ₦1.4 billion, is part of a federal intervention spearheaded by the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC).

In addition to the flag-off, Hon. Ogah distributed educational materials worth millions of naira to students of Uturu Secondary School. The items included customized school bags and other learning tools aimed at enhancing the educational experience and fostering a sense of pride among the students.

The infrastructure upgrade will feature the construction of:

  • Four state-of-the-art laboratories (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and General Science).
  • An ICT block equipped with an e-library.
  • A modern administrative block.
  • Fully powered with solar energy.

This initiative is expected to transform the school into a model institution in Abia State, providing students with a world-class learning environment.

Speaking during the ceremony, the school principal, Dr. Mrs. Salome Nkemakolam Obiukwu, described the day as historic. “This intervention is a milestone for our school, which has produced notable leaders across various sectors. Hon. Ogah has not only brought progress but also reignited hope in the power of quality education,” she said.

Dr. Obiukwu also commended Hon. Ogah for his generosity in providing the students with school materials, noting that it would motivate them to take their studies more seriously.

“This is the first federal intervention of its kind in our school,” Dr. Obiukwu said. “Hon. Amobi Ogah has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the progress of our people, and this project is a testament to his vision and dedication.”

Speaking during the event, Hon. Ogah expressed gratitude for the opportunity to bring such a transformative project to his constituency. “This initiative will not only improve the educational infrastructure in Uturu but also position the school as a model institution in the state. It’s a new era of education, and I’m proud to be a part of this progress,” he remarked.

He assured stakeholders that the project was slated for completion within six months and assured the community of its timely execution, which would be executed with high standards and quality materials. Hon. Ogah also called for the cooperation of the community to ensure the safety and security of workers and facilities during the construction phase.

Hon. Ogah expressed his gratitude to the federal government for supporting the initiative and reiterated his dedication to uplifting his constituency.

“This project is a dream come true, not just for me, but for the entire constituency. Beyond the infrastructure, I wanted to make an immediate impact on the students, which is why I provided the school materials. It’s about creating an environment where they can thrive academically and personally,” he stated.

The event was attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, alumni of the school, representatives from NSSEC, and other stakeholders, who praised Hon. Ogah’s leadership.

His Royal Highness, Eze Sir Dr. C.A. Onuoha, traditional ruler of the Isiyi Autonomous Community, called the project a “divine blessing” and pledged the community’s full support. “This project is proof that we have a leader who prioritizes the welfare of his people. We pledge our full support to ensure its success,” he added.

In his remarks, Dr. Chidi Mbah, President General of Uturu Community, described the intervention as a turning point. “This school has a rich history, and today it receives a new chapter of progress. Hon. Ogah’s efforts show his commitment to education and the welfare of his people,

“Today is historic for our community. This school has been in dire need of attention, and Hon. Amobi Ogah has delivered beyond expectations. We are confident that more developmental strides will follow,”  he said.

Addressing Security and Additional Needs

While celebrating the development, Dr. Obiukwu also highlighted ongoing challenges such as the need for enhanced security and a multipurpose hall. She urged stakeholders to work together to ensure the sustainability of the school’s transformation.

Hon. Ogah emphasized his belief in people-centered leadership. “My focus is on delivering tangible results for my people. This project, along with the distribution of school materials, is part of my vision to change the narrative of representation in our constituency,” he remarked.

The flag-off ceremony concluded with widespread applause and optimism. Students, staff, and the community expressed their gratitude to Hon. Ogah, whose initiatives are setting new standards for education and development in Abia State.

The infrastructural upgrade and distribution of school materials have not only boosted morale but also laid a solid foundation for academic excellence, ensuring that Uturu Secondary School continues to shine as a beacon of learning in the region.
