The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abia State University (ABSU) Chapter, has disputed the government’s assertion that all staff have received their April and May salaries.
In a press release signed by union’s chairperson, Dr. Chidi S. Mbah, and secretary, Dr. Victor U. Obisike, ASUU revealed that only a few staff members have been paid, with many experiencing unexplained deductions.
The union emphasized that eleven months of outstanding salary arrears remain unpaid, causing financial hardship for staff.
ASUU appealed to Governor Alex Chioma Oti to intervene and ensure prompt payment of all outstanding salaries.
This development highlights the ongoing tensions between the government and ASUU over salary payments and university funding.
The union’s stance has sparked concerns about the impact on education and the welfare of ABSU staff.
