Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the Senator representing Abia North has expressed sympathy with the people of Ezeukwu over the damage to a portion of the 6.9km road he attracted to the community.

In a statement on his verified Facebook page, Kalu the former Governor of Abia State acknowledged the damage, citing flood and soil texture as the causes. The community has requested a new bridge to address the flooding issue, which Kalu has promised to work with the federal government to deliver.

While acknowledging the damage, Kalu noted that the affected portion is only about 150-200 meters out of the total 6.9km road. He appealed to those using the incident for political gain to exercise common sense, emphasizing his commitment to the community’s well-being.

“I learnt from the community that out of the 6.9 km , about 150-200 meters were affected. I was also made to understand that the damaged portions were due to flood and overflowing from the nearby river. The road was the first in Ezeukwu and the clayey and hydric soil texture of the place couldn’t also help the road.

“The community has requested for another bridge as a lasting solution to the challenge and we will work with the federal government to see that a new bridge is constructed on the road to solve the flooding problem.

“The Ezeukwu road is not the first and only road I have built in Abia North Senatorial zone and it’s in good intention that these roads are built for our people. Those who are unnecessarily using the bad portion of the road to play politics of antagonism and destruction should implore common sense. If out of 6.9 km road, a portion of less than 200 meters got damaged with natural reasons, I see no wisdom in playing politics with it. We stand with the community and will do our best to get it in order—OUK”, he concluded.

As a seasoned leader and champion of his people, Senator Kalu’s response demonstrates his dedication to the welfare of his constituents and his determination to address their concerns. Despite the damage, the Senator remains committed to delivering quality infrastructure to the people of Abia North Senatorial zone.
