Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has described the humanitarian service award bestowed on him by International Human Rights Commission as an endorsement of his prosperity agenda in the state.

He said apart from acknowledging his human rights records and his services to humanity, the award by the International Human Rights Commission, Switzerland, has vindicated his programme and policies.

Speaking in Abuja at the weekend shortly after he received the award alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan and other prominent Nigerians, Uzodimma commended the organisation for finding him worthy.

“ I look at it(award) as the endorsement of our human rights and humanitarian services in Imo state. I welcome it as an acknowledgement of our sincere and modest efforts at the full implementation of our prosperity agenda. I view it as an encouragement to reposition our economy with a view to serving our people better, “ Uzodimma said after receiving the award from the Secretary General of the organisation, Prof Rafal Marcia Wasik

Uzodimma, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba, noted that the award by the international body is much appreciated by his government because it was a surprise.

He said contrary to unfounded allegations against his government, he had always ensured that no innocent citizens is harassed or killed by security agencies in the course of fighting insecurity.

According to him, “ although there are always indices that suggest abridgement of rights of citizens during wars or insecurity, Imo people enjoyed their inalienable rights throughout the months of insecurity in the state because I always advised security agencies to be circumspect and obey the rules of engagement “.

The governor said that although some citizens abused the ambience of unfettered freedom created by his government, he still remained resolute by ensuring that no innocent blood was spilt.

Uzodimma was elated that in spite of the distraction created by the insecurity and antics of the opposition, he was able to faithfully implement all his programmes and policies.

He said reputable organisations including ICAN have praised him for the prudent and transparent manner he has been running the government, and commented International Human Rights Commission, Switzerland for adding their voices to those who have commended his government.

The governor who dedicated the award to Imo people used the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to improving their welfare in the years ahead.
