As the confrontation between Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rages on in Khartoum, the country’s capital, at least one hundred people are claimed to have been killed and many more injured.
According to the Voice of America (VOA), both sides are claiming control of important areas, and calls for a truce are mounting.
The current key battles between the military and the Rapid Support Forces include the military headquarters, Khartoum International Airport, and districts surrounding the presidential palace.
The clash is said to have disrupted the capital’s power and water networks, making life more difficult for those trapped indoors by the fighting and those injured in the clashes.
Volker Perthes, the UN ambassador to Sudan, said more than 1,800 people have been injured in the fighting and cautioned that many people are unable to get to hospitals for medical treatment due to the skirmishes.
