In the UK, around 70,000 employees at 150 universities will walk out over 18 days between February and March.
The University College Union (UCU) reported that the strike was launched due to disagreements over wages, working conditions, and threats against pensions.
Academics, librarians, and other employees are among the members who are requesting a pay increase over the 4% to 5% granted by employer organization the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA).
The union said that exact dates would be announced the following week.

“The clock is now ticking for the sector to produce an agreement or be confronted with widespread disruption throughout spring,” general secretary Jo Grady said.
According to the UCU, the average member will lose more than one-third of their expected retirement income as a result of the “package of cuts” that companies are preparing.
Since the beginning of the academic year, a number of lecturer walkouts have shaken Britain’s institutions.

The largest higher education staff strike in history took place in November when UCU members walked out for three days at 150 universities.
Approximately 2.5 million pupils were impacted by the strike.
The announcement follows the NASUWT teacher members’ failure to reach the necessary strike threshold hours earlier.
Nine out of ten members supported the walkout, although fewer than half participated in the ballot.
The NASUWT claimed that the vote demonstrated “the profession’s ire.”
