Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu, Monday called for an end to the practice of female circumcision, otherwise known as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Nigeria.

Ojukwu, according to a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs, NHRC, Fatimah Mohammed, made the call in Abuja weekend on the occasion of this year’s World Day of Zero Tolerance for the Practice of FGM.

He said the NHRC, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund and the Civil Resource Documentation Development Centre, had produced a training manual on human rights and other related issues of FGM in Nigeria.

He urged well-meaning individuals and organisations to join the commission in its resolve to do more to end female genital mutilation in Nigeria.
