Some gunmen yesterday attacked a church in Akure, the Ondo State capital, taking the founder of the church, three other women and a baby.
The attack occurred between 12:30 and 1am during a vigil, it was learnt.
One of the kidnappers reportedly entered the church and, after a few minutes, brought out his weapon.
Other members of the gang soon joined him.
But officials of the state security network codenamed Amotekun, on receiving the church’s distress call, chased the assailants to a forest off Ado Road.
All four victims were rescued, while one of the suspects was apprehended.
Amotekun commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, who spoke while parading 22 suspects arrested in other operations, said efforts were on to catch the fleeing gunmen who attacked the church yesterday.
