Traffic And Indiscipline Management Agency Of Abia State (TIMAAS) has appealed to road users attempting to access Aba main town from Osisioma/Aba Owerri Road to be patient over the gridlock in that axis.
The agency says this is due to ongoing re-construction work along Aba-Owerri Road, which led to the temporary closure of one part of the road.
In a release made available to ABN TV by the General Manager of TIMAAS, Cmdr. Bright Chinedu Ikeokwu, expressed regret over the patience, saying efforts are on to expedite the re-construction work.
According to Comrade Ikeokwu, the remaining part is spacious enough to carry the traffic, noting that it requires patience and discipline while driving through these areas.
He said, “As part of measures to ameliorate the situation, Cmdr. Ikeokwu directs the Closure of the loading Bay at Okpu-umuobo/Union Bank junction till the completion of the ongoing construction work.
“The NURTW and leaders of Tricycle Unions should please take note.
“The Traders at Ahia Nkwo, Umungasi, and Afule markets encroaching on the road are by this announcement directed to vacate the road with immediate effect or they’ll have themselves to blame.
“The Chairmen of the above-mentioned markets should please ensure compliance.
“As part of measures to reduce traffic on Aba Owerri Rd, Cmdr. Ikeokwu appeals to commuters coming to Aba from Enugu, Umuahia or Owerri to make use of the 9.2km Umuejije-Osokwa Aro road to join the 32km Umueñe-Obikabia road and burst out at Obikabia junction in Ogbor-Hill Aba. Those going to Enugu, Umuahia or Owerri could as well use the above-mentioned route.
“Cmdr. Ikeokwu stated that to make an Omelette you must break egg. He however regrets any inconveniences and appeals for patience and understanding while his men work in collaboration with the company in ensuring that Abians still go to their normal businesses while the reconstruction work Continues.”
