At least one person has been killed in Ndume Ibeku Umuahia in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia state following a fracas during ekpe festival in the community on Saturday.
An eyewitness who spoke to ABN TV on the condition of anonymity said the victim, one Samuel in his early 20s and his group had invaded one Chinonso’s shop, a dealer in local gins and pork meat.
Though what led to their misunderstanding could not be independently ascertained as at the moment of this report, our source said it may not be unconnected with ownership tussle of a cap.
During the attack on Chinonso in his shop, he was said to have ran into his house, from where he brought out a cutlass and macheted the deceased to death.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital but couldn’t make it as he gave up the ghost along the way.
Chinonso a native of Umuana Ndume following the development has had his shop burnt along with that of his mother and their home, while property in the house have also been destroyed.
All efforts to reach PPRO of Abia state police command, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna for a comment proved abortive as his phone number could not go through.
Recently, a driver with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State whose name was given as Kingsley Akpan a native of Akwa Ibom State was shot dead by yet-to-be-identified persons.
He was killed at F-line Junction Agbama Housing estate Umuahia.
