Imo State Police Command says it has commenced investigation to unravel the authenticity of a viral video in which an old woman and a young woman were seen carrying a baby of about 9 months suspected to have been stolen from Akwa Ibom state and brought to the state.
ABN TV reports that they were allegedly caught on camera along Mbaise Road by ABC MOTOR PARK Owerri, bargaining to sell the little baby for four hundred thousand (#400,000.00) Naira, CSP Michael Abattam, PPRO of the command said in a statement.
While assuring members of the public that they are on top of the situation, the police command Imo State said the Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, has already inaugurated a high-powered investigation team to trace who the parents of the child are.
He said, “The command wish to inform the good people of Imo State that, we are already on top of the situation. And the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Abutu Yaro, fdc, has already inaugurated a high powered investigation team directing them to commenced forensic investigation into the viral Post to unravel how the two women came about the little baby, trace and location the real parents of the child, where the baby was stolen and for what purpose.
“The command is assuring the good people of the state that, as soon as the investigation is concluded, the outcome will be made public for all and sundry to know the real facts surrounding the viral Post.
“The CP warned all Child Traffickers to desist from their inhuman, illegal and nefarious trade as the Command do the needful to trace, identify and apprehend them for prosecution.”
