Some stakeholders of the Ukwa West chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have called for continued unity among members of the party in order to ensure hitch-free processes in the party’s forthcoming Ward and Local Government Congresses.

It should be recalled that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses which were earlier postponed would begin July 31, 2021. The initial timetable released by the party fixed Ward Congress for 24th July, Local Government Congress for 14th August 2021 and the State Congress for 18th September 2021.

Speaking during a meeting held last weekend at the country home of the Acting Abia State Deputy Chairman, Chief Ogunka Adiele John, at Umuelechi, Asa, in Ukwa West Local Government Area, the former House of Representatives candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the 2019 general elections, who defected to the APC, Eze Nwoloki, stated that the membership of the party of Ukwa West has grown tremendously, particularly, following the near total collapse of Ukwa West APGA into APC, stressing that there was need to continue to do things right in order to attract more people into the party. He added that without people, no political party can achieve its primary purpose of taking over power and controlling the resources in a State.

Nwoloki noted that there was a big fight ahead considering that the APC was in opposition in Abia State, and emphasized the need for greater unity among members to make for victory of the party in the 2023 elections.

Also speaking, Pastor Nwadike Nwankwo, who used the forum to announce his intention to run for the office of the State Chairman of the party, said he had consulted with prominent stakeholders of the party in the State on his ambition, stressing that as a foundation and committed member of the party, he had all it would take to improve on the successes so far recorded by the current pragmatic leadership of Hon. Donatus Nwankpa.

He expressed confidence in the fact that the party would zone the position of the State Chairman to Abia South Senatorial zone, adding that the current Chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa is from Abia Central.

Making his remarks on behalf of all the Ward Chairmen in the local government, the Chairman of Chairmen, Comr. Uchenna Nwagbara, thanked the State Deputy Chairman for calling the meeting, noting that it had taken a long time that such meeting held in his house. He said they had confidence in the leadership of Chief Ogunka Adiele John, and assured him of their loyalty and cooperation at all times.

Earlier in his speech, the Acting State Deputy Chairman, APC, Abia State, Chief Ogunka Adiele John, disclosed that he called the meeting to ignite the spirit of urgency among members towards the party’s Congresses that would come up in no distant future.

He said, “When things are properly done, the people benefit and without faith you cannot do politics. I am aware that many party faithfuls in the local government area look up to me as their leader and I cannot disappoint them by not providing the necessary compass that will ensure that our party continues to get stronger until we take over the State from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP”.

He urged members to ensure that they gave their support to only the aspirants with vision, integrity, capacity and character during the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses, adding that the coming Congresses in the local government would be transparently done to ensure that no aspirant becomes an executive member of the party through the back door.

Chief John said there was need to hold meetings regularly, adding that he would always make himself available for any service that would be of benefit to the Ukwa West APC.

While presenting Pastor Nwadike Nwankwo to the party members, Chief John, said, ” Pastor Dike is a strong, dedicated and focused party member, who believes in the dream of his people in Ukwa. He is eminently qualified to hold the position of the State Party Chairman.

Continuing he said, “Pastor Dike Nwankwo is one of the strongest pillars of Ukwa West APC, a man of strong character whose word is his bond; who can never be intimidated by anyone. He has the capacity to make Abia APC and Ukwa people proud”.

The meeting attracted Ward Chairmen, some members of the local government executive of the party, leaders, among whom were; Dr. Ik Ajuzieogu, the Secretary General of the Asa Development Union, ThankGod Ntaku, Media Director, Sir Marc Wabara Campaign Council in the 2019 elections, Mr. Ibe Nworgu, former Ukwa West APC Chairman, Chief Chijioke Nza (jnr), Mrs. Odochi Onuegbu, LG Women Leader, Wisdom Silas, State House of Assembly aspirant in the 2019 general elections and Chief Dominic Oforji. Others were; Comr. Ndukaku Anyamele, former Ukwa West APGA Chairman, Mr. Chukwu Ogbuji, LG Youth Leader, Mr. Steve Nwankwo, LG Asst. Secretary, Comr. Nkemdirim Onyeike, LG Auditor, Chief Uche Okeke, Hon. Sebastine Anyasor, Apostle Abraham Isiguzo, LG Organising Secretary and Mr. Emeka Vincent.
