Minority Leader of Abia state House of Assembly and member representing Bende North constituency, Hon Chijoke Chukwu has expressed displeasure over the schemings to replace the incumbent governor Okezie Ikpeazu by Ukwa La Ngwa Elders Council and other interest groups, saying it is an indictment and admittance of failure of the governor and PDP-led administration.
While noting that 2023 is far a time for the political atmosphere to be tensed with who succeeds Governor Ikpeazu, the lawmaker stressed that it is a deliberate ploy to distract people of the State from the real issues of governance.
In an exclusive interview with ABN TV, Hon. Chukwu said the groups are working hard to ensure that Abians get preoccupied with permutations on who will take over power in 2023 and be distracted from placing a demand on the current administration.
“Salaries are being owed, teachers are being owed, the governor has not delivered optimally on infrastructure. While other state governments like Rivers are building thirteen million dollars cassava plants to boost agriculture, Akwa Ibom is building a state-of-the-art and the best ammonia plant and we are here talking about 2023.

“That is why in Abia North, where I come from, that has the rightful place to demand for governorship come 2023 has risen to say it is our turn to produce the governor,” he said.
He also faulted a member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe who said Isialangwa North should produce the next governor of the state.
According to Chukwu, the recent development has jettisoned the old geographical division line of political structure, maintaining that the three geopolitical zones should have a rotational shift in office of the governor.
“An old Bende man of Abia North extraction had opportunity given to him in 1999 through Orji Uzor Kalu to administer the state. And it moved to Abia Central. It does not matter whether the person is of old Bende or of Ngwa extraction.
“Once it gets to a senatorial district like we know, it is the right of Abia North to produce the next Abia governor. Whether the person is from old Bende of Bende extraction or old Okigwe division of Bende extraction, it does not matter. The most important thing is that it must come from Abia North,” he insisted.
