Unidentified gunmen on Monday attacked Okigwe South Area Command Headquarters of the Nigerian Police in Orieagu, Imo state leaving five police officers dead, ABN TV reports.
According to a police officer at the headquarters name withheld the attackers launched explosives on the police facility and successfully freed all the suspects and made away with arms.
A community source , said that the villagers were running away to the neighboring communities.
The PPRO of the Command, Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed this to newsmen.
He said that one of the officers is yet to be accounted for.
Mr. Ikeokwu however explained that no fire incident was recorded during the incident that occurred on Monday evening.

The attack came barely two days after the country house of the state governor Senator Hope Uzodimma was set ablaze by unknown gunmen.
Police facilities in the state have come under attack by gunmen in the last two months during which buildings were razed and police officers killed.
