South East Governors under the auspices of South East Governors Forum has insisted that the country must restructure now to move forward even as it maintains that the Saturday attack on governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State’s home is condemnable.
The Governors and Leaders made the condemnation after a meeting at Lion House, Enugu on Sunday.
Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting in Enugu, the Chairman, South East Governors’Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engineer David Nweze Umahi said participants at the meeting sympathized with Senator Uzodimma and urged the Federal Government and the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements.
“The meeting condemns the attacks on the country home of the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma and other State Infrastructure. We sympathize with him and call on the Federal Government to fish out the perpetrators and ensure their prosecution”
In a statement signed by Francis Nwaze, Special Assistant to Governor Umahi, he observed that the leaders restated their adoption of a common Security outfit called Ebubeagu saying the Zone has adopted a structure and modality for the effective operation of the outfit in the Zone.
“southeast Governors and Leaders restated the adoption of a common Joint Security outfit called Ebubeagu with her regional Headquarters in Enugu. Ebubeagu will work with the police and other security agencies in her operations to protect lives and property in the South East, we agreed on the structure and operational modalities of Ebubeagu to set up an Advisory Board for the security outfit”
The Chairman South East Governors’Forum announced that the leaders have also mandated the Ohaneze Ndigbo to set up two Committees to fine-tune other details within the next ten days.
According to Governor Umahi, Leaders directed Attorneys General of States in the zone to expedite action to come up with the amendment of existing laws to reflect the new Ebubeagu Security outfit.
The Leaders according to Governor Umahi also banned open grazing in the area and urged the security agencies and local vigilantes to enforce the ban.
He said the southeast Governors have also agreed on the implementation of the #Endsars youth empowerment programs across the Zone as soon as possible.
The Governors and Leaders however said they are in support of restructuring, State Police and other National issues as discussed in the last NEC Meeting.
The meeting was attended by Traditional cum Religious Leaders, Governors and other Stakeholders of the Zone.
