A leading online news platform in Nigeria, ABN TV has been commended for accuracy and professionalism in the discharge of its functions following the report of the death of a member representing Aba North/South Federal constituency, Hon. Ossy Prestige.
ABN TV had few weeks ago received backlash after breaking the news of the lawmaker’s death, a story many constituents doubted.
The latest note of commendation is coming from a civil society group, Media For Change Initiative.
Speaking with our correspondents in Abuja on Monday, national co-ordinator of the group, Kayode Adewale noted that ABN TV has consistently stood out in authenticating its stories before going public.

“Despite the backlash, ABN TV has been exonerated on the news. Now that the family has come the confirm Ossy Prestige’s death, the argument is laid to rest.
“Your platform (ABN TV) is not in the league of those that malign and libel individuals for pecuniary gains. That is the kind of media platform we need in our country. People should be able to rely on news they source online and that is what ABN TV stands for” he said.
Mr. Adewale while calling on others to take a cue from ABN TV by punishing news irrespective of whose ox is gored further tasked them to observe professional ethics of accuracy and objectivity.
Our correspondent gathered that the House of Reps member passed on at a German hospital after a protracted illness.
He was flown from London after his health deteriorated late last year.
Hon. Ossy Prestige is reputed to have sponsored the education of some indigent Aba residents in addition to the school buses provided.
His death however came as a rude shock to many.
