Member representing Bende North Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu has dissuaded insinuations that the federal government has impeded the development of Abia in the area of infrastructure.
This is even as he insists that no state in the Southeast has benefitted more from the ”magnanimity” of the Federal Government than Abia, alleging that officials of government in the state are diverting intervention funds meant for Abia.
In a chat with newsmen on Thursday, Chukwu who is the Minority Leader in Abia State House of Assembly said the funds from federal government to Abia are being used to either purchase expensive houses by Abia government officials or laundered outside the shores of Nigeria.
He said the statement credited to the state Governor that the federal government is not supportive of its developmental agenda is meant to divert attention and indication of failure of the PDP-led Government in the state.
“I make bold to say that the governor is out of touch with what the federal government has done for Abia.
“For over six years of PDP government in Abia, there is not home-made welfarist intervention to Abians except that made by the federal government.
“In the past six years, the federal government has either constructed or renovated 80 percent of Abia primary and junior secondary schools through ASUBEB intervention.
“Seventy five percent of funds used for either the construction of these schools or renovation comes from the federal government. State government only paid twenty five percent counterpart fund” he said.
On the school feeding programme of primary and junior secondary schools, he said it is totally an intervention of the Federal Government, insisting that state government is not contributing one kobo to it.
