The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, FCT chapter, Nze Ifeanyichukwu Obasi-Nwaeze has said the secessionist agitation in the South East region will be reasonably fought if there is constructive engagement with the government as well as balancing in power, employment, and appointment.
Nze Nwaeze, a legal practitioner who spoke in an interview with ABN TV in Abuja said there is a need for enquiry as to how the government has balanced employment in accordance with the 1999 Constitution as amended, especially in the FCT. This he describes as constructive engagement with the government.
According to him, when issues are well presented, it paves way for the window of solution.
Barr. Nwaeze further emphasised that when the South West region of the country had a similar sense of marginalisation like the Igbos, which he attributed to fuelling the secessionist agitation in the region, they were reconciled with a Presidential office in 1999.
He said there is a need for reconciliation and pacification of Ndigbo, just like their South West counterparts.
This he said among other things should come by way of allowing the South East region to produce the next President of the country.
“I think time has come for that reconciliation. And that reconciliation can be actualized by allowing an Igbo man to come and repair the country.
“Check a man’s family and check his performance, either in politics or any other office. It is his performance that speaks.
“What you are able to do in your family, you replicate even in higher stage. Your functional potential is determined by your performance in the enclave.
“So if the Igbo man has shown that he is able to succeed even in the worst of climate, then it means what we are passing through is child’s play to an Igbo man when he comes up,” he said.
He faulted the government over the use of military force to subdue secessionist agitation in the South East spearheaded by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB.
According to the Ohanaeze leader, negotiation should have been the most workable option to manage the situation.
